    ALLENDALE RECREATION BASEBALL
ARC baseball is available to all Allendale boys in 1st through 8th grade. The program focuses on teaching skill development, rules of the game, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The program stresses baseball instruction, player participation, and competition in the older age groups. We have five divisions: Instructional 1, Instructional 2, Minor League, Major League, and Pony League (see below).

Uniforms consisting of a T-shirt and a baseball hat are provided to the boys. All players should have a baseball glove and cleats. Metal baseball spikes are NOT permitted. Like all Allendale Recreational programs, parental volunteers are needed to coach, sponsor teams and work in the concession stand.

Registration begins in January and is closed in February. Registration is done early so we can determine the number of teams, hold player drafts (Minor Leagues and older), and create schedules. Drafts are held in these divisions in order to insure balanced and fair teams. Therefore late registrants for these divisions are not accommodated. In order to qualify for Travel baseball players must signup and play the recreation season. The baseball season runs from team practices in late March through the weekend prior to the end of the school year in mid-June. No games are scheduled for the Spring school vacation week or on Memorial Day weekend (although travel baseball players will be active in tournaments).

Instructional 1 – this league is for 1st grade boys. It includes Allendale boys only and it is not competitive. Teams are formed randomly. In this league, the rules call for the players to be moved around to different positions so that they can learn various skills. Players typically hit the ball off a tee or try to hit pitches thrown by the coaches. A reduced-impact baseball is used for safety. This league begins with clinics on the first two Saturdays in April and games continue through mid-June. Practices may also be held during the week at the option of the coaches.

Instructional 2 – this league is for 2nd grade boys. This is the first league where boys get the chance to play against teams from Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River (HHK). Scores are kept, but the focus is still on baseball instruction over winning. Teams are formed mostly by random, however players known to have travel baseball experience are distributed evenly among the teams. Batters face live pitching for the first time, but coaches stand ready to pitch, if necessary, in order to keep the game moving. The league begins with clinics on the first two Saturdays in April and games continue through mid-June. Practices are also held once during the week.

Minor League – grade 3/4 baseball is the first age-group where coaches remain on the sidelines. Pitchers throw from 46’ and basepaths are set at 60’. In a league with teams from HHK, teams will play a 12-14 game regular season schedule followed by single-elimination playoffs. The season will end with the championship game on the weekend prior to the end of the school year. Teams are formed in late February through a balanced player draft. Every effort is made to ensure that teams are at equal strength prior to the start of the season. Players will be playing in a minimum of two games per week, including every Saturday. Practices are often scheduled as well at the option of the coaches.

Major League – In grade 5/6 baseball, pitchers throw from 50’6” and basepaths are set at 70’. In a league with HHK, teams will play a 12-14 game regular season schedule followed by single-elimination playoffs.

Pony League – in grade 7/8 baseball, pitchers throw from 54’ and basepaths are set at 80’. In a league with HHK and Upper Saddle River, teams will play a 12-14 game regular season schedule followed by single-elimination playoffs.

    ALLENDALE RECREATIONAL SOFTBALL
ARC Softball is a program available to all Allendale girls in 1st through 8th grade. The program focuses on teaching skill development, rules of the game, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The program is always done within a fun environment and moves into an increasingly competitve environment as the girls move up through the program.

    There are 4 divisions:
    Rookie
    - 1st & 2nd Grade
    Farm - 3rd & 4th Grade
    Minors - 5th & 6th Grade
    Majors - 7th & 8th Grade

Uniforms consisting of a T-Shirt, visor and socks are provided for all girls. All players should have a softball glove. Softball spikes are recommended but not required. Like all ARC programs, parental volunteers are needed to coach, sponsor teams and work in the concession stand.

Drafts are held for Farm, Minor and Major divisions. Drafts are held in these divisions in order to insure balanced and fair teams. Therefore late registrants for these divisions are not accomodated. Teams are randomly selected for the Rookie Division. For the Rookie and Farm division the season kicks off with a 2 day softball clinic, usually run on the first 2 Saturdays in April. For the Minor and Major divisions, the season begins with team practices at the end of March. For all divisions, the season ends mid to late June depending on rainouts and make-ups.

The rookie division plays once a week, usually on Saturday mornings. All other divisions have weeknight and weekend games and may practice once during the week depending on availability of fields. Rookie and Farm divisions play only Allendale teams here in Allendale. Minor and Major divisions play Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River, Upper Saddle River, Midland Park teams and will travel as well as play in Allendale.

    ALLENDALE RECREATIONAL KICKBALL
Kickball is a co-ed spring sport for Pre-K Children. The child should be entering Kindergarten in the fall of the current year. Kickball is played for 6 weeks in May & June on Saturday Mornings from 11:00 – 11:45. It typically is played the 1st 3 Saturdays in May & the 1st 3 Saturdays in June on the West Maple Field located in Crestwood Lake Park. We do not play Memorial Day Weekend. The field is situated in the Southwest corner of the park.

The goal of Kickball is to teach the players the fundamentals of field positions, base running, good sportsmanship and having fun. This will help them get ready for Teeball in Kindergarten. The teams will practice with their coaches for 20-25 mins and then play against the other team for the remaining 20-25 minutes. Bases are set 20 yards apart. There are no outs, no stealing, no sliding and everyone gets a chance at bat (kicking), once on base everyone makes it home. Teams switch sides when all players have a turn at the plate during the inning

At the Pre-K level it is mandatory that a parent or guardian stay at the field during the practice and game sessions. This serves 2 purposes, the emotional needs and the safety needs of their children. Players will receive a T-shirt and should wear it to all games. They should bring a water bottle and arrive to practice/games on time.

    ALLENDALE RECREATIONAL TEEBALL
Teeball is a co-ed spring sport for children currently enrolled in Kindergarten. Teeball is played for 8 weeks. The games are in April, May & June on Saturday mornings from 9:00- 10:00 or 10:00 – 11:00, depending on your team schedule. It typically is played 2 weeks in April, the 1st 3 Saturdays in May & the 1st 3 Saturdays in June on the West Maple Field located in Crestwood Lake Park. We do not play on the 2 weekends in April during the school spring recess or Memorial Day Weekend. The field is situated in the Southwest corner of the park.

The goal of Teeball is to build upon what they have already learned in Pre-K Kickball. It reinforces the fundamentals of field positions, base running, good sportsmanship and having fun. Batting and Fielding with a mitt will be taught by drills and repetition. The teams have the field for 1 hour. The 1st half is spent on stretching, drills and practice. The second half will be game time. There are no outs, no stealing, no sliding and everyone gets a chance at bat, once on base everyone makes it home. Teams switch sides when all players have a turn at the plate during the inning. All Batters and Runners are required to wear a helmet.
